Your insurance will respond differently, based on the type of injury suffered in an accident

Your insurance will respond differently, depending on what type of injury is suffered in an accident.
There are three types of injuries: Minor, Non-Catastrophic and Catastrophic
A Minor Injury means a sprain, strain, whiplash associated disorder, contusion (bruise), abrasion (scratch), laceration (gash) or subluxation (joint dislocation) and any clinically associated sequelae (secondary issue caused by injury).
After September 1, regardless of when your policy renews, the maximum amount paid for a minor injury will be $3500.00 (including assessment fees)
Once you policy renews after September 1, 2010, your coverage will change drastically for Non-Catastrophic and Catastrophic injuries.
A Catastrophic Injury means: • Paraplegia or quadriplegia • The total and permanent loss (or loss of use) of an arm or leg • Total loss of vision in both eyes • A brain impairment that results in a score of 9 or less on the Glasgow Coma Scale • A brain impairment that results in a score of 2 or 3 on the Glasgow Outcome Scale • Impairment of 55% or more of the whole person.
Any injury that is not Minor or Catastrophic is considered a Non-Catastrophic injury. This is where most of the coverage has been severely reduced. You will most likely want to add this coverage back to your policy.
Please be sure to contact your insurance broker to discuss your personal requirements regarding your automobile accident benefits coverage. Unless you do, your coverage will automatically be reduced.
